Work on Mose is regulated by a contract drawn up between the State (the Venice Water Authority) and the implementing body, the Consorzio Venezia Nuova, introducing the "closed price" criterion, precisely defining the schedule and costs of the work. To date, the schedule annexed to the contract has been respected. Work is proceeding in parallel at all three inlets, Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia. The work sites are organised to receive almost all material, plant and personnel by sea to avoid interfering with the fragile coastal areas. In addition, to avoid interfering with economic, maritime and port activities, the work is always concentrated in half of each inlet to avoid interrupting transit of the channels. Contemporaneously, morphological restoration works are under realization in the most deteriorated areas, using the material obtained from dredging at the three inlets, when compatible with the lagoon environment. Four rows of gates will be realized: one at Malamocco inlet (with 19 gates), one at Chioggia inlet (with 18 gates) and two at Lido inlet (on the Traporti canal with 21 gates and on the San Nicolò canal with 20 gates). The two rows at the Lido inlet are connected by an artificial island, housing the control buildings and the gate operation system. Work is also underway to construct the infrastructure and functionally adapt the buildings and spaces in the north Arsenal where maintenance of Mose and management of the system will be located. |
